چکیده

Background The carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV) assessed by tonometry is predictive of future cardiovascular disease (CVD) events; however, the predictive value of aortic arch PWV assessed by MRI for CVD events has not been established in the general population. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the association of arch PWV with incident CVD events over 10 years based on the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA).

Aortic size, distensibility, and pulse wave velocity changes with aging: longitudinal analysis from Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA)

Arterial stiffening is related to an intricate interplay between aging and other cardiovascular risk factors. The aortic arch accounts for most of the vascular buffering function and is primarily involved in arterial stiffening. MRI has been used to noninvasively measure strain, distensibility, and pulse wave velocity of the ascending aorta. We report aortic size and stiffness changes over mid ...

Relationship between tissue factor pathway inhibitor and aortic stiffness assessed by MRI: the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA)

Background Arterial stiffness is an important predictor of risk for incident cardiovascular events. Impaired endothelial function has been related to arterial cyclic stress, large artery stiffness and remodeling. MRI has been used to noninvasively measure local aortic strain and distensibility, and regional pulse wave velocity (PWV) of the proximal aorta. We investigated the relationship betwee...

Association of Aortic Stiffness With Left Ventricular Remodeling and Reduced Left Ventricular Function Measured by Magnetic Resonance Imaging: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis.

BACKGROUND This study sought to assess cross-sectional associations of aortic stiffness assessed by magnetic resonance imaging with left ventricular (LV) remodeling and myocardial deformation in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA). METHODS AND RESULTS Aortic arch pulse wave velocity (PWV) was measured with phase contrast cine magnetic resonance imaging. LV circumferential strain ...

Reproducibility of functional aortic analysis using MRI: the multi-ethnic study of atherosclerosis

Methods Twenty-five participants underwent aortic MRI twice over 13 ± 7 days. All aortic variables (ascending aortic area, descending aortic area, ascending and descending aortic strain [maximum area minus minimum area divided by minimum area], aortic arch transit time and pulse wave velocity [PWV]) from baseline and repeat MR were analyzed using a semi-automated method by the ARTFUN software. ...

Reduced ascending aortic strain and distensibility: earliest manifestations of vascular aging in humans.

Arterial stiffness predicts cardiovascular events beyond traditional risk factors. However, the relationship with aging of novel noninvasive measures of aortic function by MRI and their interrelationship with established markers of vascular stiffness remain unclear and currently limit their potential impact. Our aim was to compare age-related changes of central measures of aortic function with ...
